Dr Jessica Biesiekierski
Jessica is a Post-doctoral Research Fellow with the Translational Research Center for Gastrointestinal Disorders at KU Leuven in Belgium. Jessica’s research focus specialises in the dietary management of gastrointestinal disorders and food intolerances, and is currently exploring gastric nutrient sensing and how diet can alter the physiological response to meal ingestion, including peripheral and central mechanisms.
Jessica completed her PhD at Monash University in Australia, investigating the effects of gluten and carbohydrates as inducers of gastrointestinal symptoms in adults without coeliac disease. Jessica has past experience working as a clinical nutritionist in private practice and in the food industry.
Jessica’s most notable achievements include being awarded the Rome Foundation’s Ken Heaton Award for the Most Cited Paper on functional gastrointestinal and motility disorders twice (2015 and 2013), the 2011 Nutrition Society of Australia Early Career Award and the 2009 Australian Gastroenterology Douglas Piper Clinical Young Investigator Award.
