Dr Stephen Vanner
Dr. Vanner is the Director of the Gastrointestinal Diseases Research Unit and Deputy Head (Academic) of the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. His translational research program focuses on mechanisms underlying pain signaling from the GI tract in patients with irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease. His recent studies have examined immune activation in the intestine of IBS patients causing sensitization of nociceptive nerves and how diet-microbiome interactions in these patients play a role. He is co-lead of the IBS studies in the $25M CIHR patient oriented research study called IMAGINE, a longitudinal study of over 8000 IBS and IBD subjects that examines the interplay of the microbiome, diet and their symptoms.
