Professor Jon Rhodes
Jonathan Rhodes MA MD FRCP FMedSci is Emeritus Professor of Medicine (since April 2014), Institute of Translational Medicine, University of Liverpool; previously Professor of Medicine and Hon Consultant Gastroenterologist, Royal Liverpool Hospital, UK.
Training: Cambridge University & St Thomas' Hosp (MB 1973); Royal Free Hosp (registrar and research fellow supervised by Derek Jewell) (MD Cambridge 1982); Birmingham (with Elwyn Elias, Roy Cockel, Robert Allan). Came to Liverpool in 1985 and established, with colleagues, an extensive clinical practice in inflammatory bowel disease that has evolved into a large multidisciplinary team.
President, British Society of Gastroenterology 2010-12; co-editor Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics; member International Organisation for IBD.
Research interests: Mucins/epithelial glycobiology/diet-microbial-epithelial interactions in IBD and colon cancer. Publications: 271 peer-reviewed publications. 4 patents. Theses supervised: 11 PhD and 12 MD.
